Fuel supply systems expert Auramarine has won a contract to deliver advanced fuel supply systems for three new ro-pax vessels ordered by Finnlines, including the delivery of methanol, biofuels and HFO fuel systems.

The Finnish shipping and ferry operator recently announced the addition of three new Hansa Superstar-class vessels, set for delivery in 2028 and 2029, to operate on the Finland-Germany route. Designed by Deltamarin, the 240m vessels offer 5,100 lane meters for cargo, and capacity for up to 1,100 passengers and 60 cars. The ships will be built at China Merchants Weihai Shipyard.

They feature multi-fuel engines capable of running on methanol, supporting Finnlines’ environmental targets. In addition, the ships leverage green technologies including modern hull and high efficiency propeller design, shore power connectivity and waste heat recovery systems – reducing CO2 emissions compared with current vessels on the route.

Auramarine will design and deliver the fuel supply systems to all three vessels, including control and ESD automations. They will be delivered to China Merchants Weihai Shipyard during autumn 2026 and winter 2027.

John Bergman, CEO of Auramarine, said the company was “proud” to be supporting the transition to sustainable fuels, adding, “Even though the IMO’s decision on the Net Zero Framework has been postponed, Auramarine remains steadfast in supporting the maritime industry’s green transition.”

Juha Ahia, manager new-building and projects, Finnlines, said the partnership “reflects our commitment to innovation and sustainability as we work toward greener shipping operations.”
