Thecla Bodewes Shipyards has delivered the MV Vertom Joyce, a 7,280 DWT diesel-electric dry cargo vessel, to Vertom Group. The ceremonial handover took place at Harlingen Seaport, in the presence of stakeholders from both companies.

Sustainable propulsion

The MV Vertom Joyce has a diesel-electric propulsion system. A power management system ensures optimal energy efficiency while a box-shaped hold and lower propulsion demand cut emissions and fuel use.

The vessel measures 118.60m in length with a beam of 14.30m and features a full-box cargo hold of 9,336m3. Its reduced propulsion power requirements are projected to create cost savings and environmental benefits compared with conventional ships in the same class.Vertom Joyce, the eighth vessel in the Labrax series

Vertom’s Labrax fleet

This is the eighth vessel in the Labrax series, with two more ships set to join Vertom’s fleet soon. The MV Vertom Joyce follows in the wake of her sister vessels: Vertom Patty, Vertom Cyta, Vertom Tomma, Vertom Anne Marit, Vertom Anette, Vertom Lisa and Vertom Willemijn.

Arjan de Jong, CEO of Vertom Group, noted, “As the eighth vessel in the Labrax series, the MV Vertom Joyce represents the progress we’ve made through the close collaboration between our seafarers, our new-building team, and the specialists at the yard and across the supply chain. Each vessel has benefited from their collective experience and feedback, resulting in continuous design improvements. This delivery reflects our ongoing commitment to innovation, safety and sustainable performance at sea.”

“With every new Labrax vessel, we continue to push boundaries,” said Thecla Bodewes, CEO of Thecla Bodewes Shipyards. “Vertom Joyce is a shining example of how innovation and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand. Our partnership with Vertom is built on shared values and a bold vision for the future of shipping.”
