Titanium heat exchanger range for electric and hybrid marine propulsion

Manufacturer E J Bowman is to release a range of titanium heat exchangers aimed at offering a cost-effective cooling solution for the electric and hybrid marine sector.

The titanium heat exchangers are said to be suitable for an array of vessels ranging from small pleasure craft to large commercial passenger ferries and workboats. E J Bowman says the new range has been designed to offer a highly efficient titanium heat exchanger at a commercially attractive price point for a product of this quality and specification.

Within the shell is a tightly packed and extremely strong titanium tube stack that is designed to provide the largest surface area possible, to ensure maximum heat transfer efficiency.

Manufactured in the UK using titanium (an ideal material for this application due to its anti-corrosion attributes), aluminum and composite materials, the heat exchangers are much lighter than traditional marine specification units.

With a shell and tube design, the titanium heat exchangers are at their most efficient when used in applications where the flow of the cooling fluid – circulating around the electrical components in the primary circuit – is much lower than the cooling water that flows through the secondary circuit, which is often the case in electric and hybrid marine systems.

The heat exchangers are less likely than plate-heat heat exchangers to be affected by blockages, resulting in a reduced amount of maintenance and a much easier routine cleaning process.

With 70 years’ experience in the marine sector, Bowman heat exchangers are renowned worldwide for their efficient heat transfer and long operating life.
