Vattenfall and Echandia Marine have developed a new solution for electric ferries designed to minimize emissions and noise and lower operational and maintenance costs all while providing super-fast charging.
The systems have been installed on the passenger ferry E/S Movitz that operates in central Stockholm. The ferry can be fully charged within 10 minutes with up to 500kW charging power. The new concept could be part of a more sustainable transport solution for different types of boats and ferries.

Vattenfall is an experienced owner and operator of electric power systems and the new solution, named Power as a Service, means the ownership and management of the equipment lies with Vattenfall. This includes the operation and maintenance, electrical safety responsibility and any further investments during the contract period.
The electric ferry E/S Movitz – owned by Echandia Marine which operates the shipping company Green City Ferries – can carry up to 98 passengers and runs a shuttle service in central Stockholm over a distance of about 10km. The world’s first supercharged electric passenger ferry of its kind, E/S Movitz only needs to be charged for ten minutes for one hour of operation.
