Marine Charging Point takes part in installation of onboard DC EV charging systems on two Öresundslinjen ferries

In collaboration with project partners, Marine Charging Point (MCP) has installed EV DC charging systems onboard two fully battery-powered ferries, the M/S Tycho Brahe and M/S Aurora, for Öresundslinjen (formerly ForSea) in Denmark/Sweden.

These two ferries’ onboard EV DC charging systems have over 600kW of combined DC charging power each. On board the zero-emission ferries, operating a 20-minute crossing between Helsingør, Denmark, and Helsingborg, Sweden, passengers can now recharge their electric vehicles (EV) with up to 160kW DC power, gaining a range extension of up to 250km during the voyage.

There are eight DC charging points located on each ferry’s car deck – as well as Marine Charging Point’s integrated CYAN EV charging management system running on board.

The setup is completed with a card payment solution for each charging station – enabling a quick charging experience for all EV passengers taking the ferry. This is intended to create a stronger alternative to using the Öresund bridge.

The installation has passed regulatory approvals both from the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA) and Transportstyrelsen (the Swedish Transport Agency) as well as class approval from Lloyd’s Register.
