XFuel granted ISCC certification for sustainable drop-in fuel production facility

International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) EU and ISCC Plus have been awarded to XFuel, enabling the company to manufacture its low- and zero-carbon fuel in line with stringent sustainability criteria. These include the ability to trace materials across the supply chain and demonstrate greenhouse gas savings.

XFuels’ conversion technology uses waste feedstocks and oils from the agricultural, forestry, construction and manufacturing sectors to produce sustainable drop-in fuels for the road, marine and aviation transportation industries.

The drop-in fuel technology produces biochar – a carbon removal product – to deliver carbon benefits via sequestration in addition to those “unlocked by the production of sustainable fuels”. And by utilizing waste feedstocks, the company contributes to the circular economy and prevents emissions that would have been generated had the feedstock gone to waste.

“We want to change the way the alternative fuels market currently works, by lowering the cost of sustainable fuels and increasing circularity in production,” explained Dr Nicholas Ball, CEO, XFuel.

“XFuel is constantly innovating to deliver the best possible impact on emissions for the fuels we make and the feedstocks we process. As a sustainable fuel company providing low-carbon clean fuel to maritime, aviation and road transport, the ISCC certification for our plant operations in Spain is an essential part of being able to deliver on this goal for our customers.”
