Glosten has announced that it has been selected to develop the design for a new diesel-electric hybrid ferry for the Alaska Marine Highway System. The low-emission shuttle ferry will serve various ports in southeast Alaska.
Equipped with a hybrid propulsion system, the vessel will operate on diesel fuel and shoreside electrical power stored in onboard batteries.
The passenger/vehicle ferry will be funded by the Federal Transit Administration and will be compliant with Buy America requirements.
Glosten said it is pleased to support the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities and the Southeast Conference in advancing sustainable marine transportation and strengthening connections between coastal communities.
The preliminary design is nearing completion, with the contract design phase scheduled to complete in the summer of 2026.
