BioMar Norway has entered a long-term partnership agreement covering the construction and operation of a new feed vessel intended to strengthen capacity, flexibility and delivery reliability along the Norwegian coast.

The agreement marks the start of a new long-term collaboration between BioMar and Egil Ulvan Rederi, which will own and operate the vessel. The investment supports BioMar’s ongoing efforts to improve resource and energy efficiency across its value chain while strengthening supply security for customers. The ship’s design was developed jointly by Egil Ulvan Rederi and The Norwegian Ship Design Company.

HÃ¥vard Yngve Jørgensen, managing director of BioMar Norway, said, “Norwegian aquaculture is in continuous development, and we must ensure that our logistics solutions evolve aligned with our customers’ needs. With this vessel we strengthen efficiency, capacity, flexibility and delivery reliability, so that we are well positioned to meet the industry’s future needs.”

Arild Hoff, CEO of Egil Ulvan Rederi, said, “We are proud to have been chosen as a partner for this project. Together we will develop a robust and efficient solution that meets the demanding requirements for logistics and operations in the aquaculture industry.”

The vessel, designated NSD 75CC, is approximately 75m long with a deadweight of approximately 4,000 metric tons. Its hybrid propulsion system will enable both electric and direct diesel-mechanical drive, supported by a large battery pack that further reduces energy consumption during unloading at fish farms and while berthed. Its dynamic positioning equipment is designed for energy-efficient, low-noise operation to minimize disturbance to fish near net pens, and the vessel is shore-power compatible for use at BioMar’s factories.

Other features include a side port, elevators, a long-reach discharge boom and a 120 metric ton heavy-lift crane for efficient loading and unloading.

The vessel is scheduled to enter service in the second quarter of 2029 and will be built at Jiangsu Soho Marine Heavy Industry in China.
