EST-Floattech has delivered two energy storage systems (ESS) for use on a pair of hybrid patrol vessels, named POA1 and POA2, currently under construction and destined to patrol the Port of Antwerp as part of the port’s drive toward greater sustainability.
The vessels will each be equipped with a 273kWh battery pack, enabling a sail time of 2.5 hours when running at 9km/h exclusively on electric power. The packs are DNV approved and have successfully passed Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) at EST’s workshop in Hoofddorp, Netherlands, supervised by Kooiman Marine Group and Holland Ship Electric, the system integrator.
The vessels also have two other power modes: full diesel propulsion and hybrid propulsion. Diesel particulate filters and integrated exhaust gas treatment systems also ensure that even when the diesel engines are running, emissions are minimized. The ships are being constructed by Kooiman Marine Group and have a length of 25m, a beam of 5.4m and draught of 1.36m.
