A contract signed by Guangzhou Yuanhai Car Carrier Transportation (COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers’ joint venture) will see Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI) – a subsidiary of state-owned China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) – building three new 7,000 CEU pure car truck carriers (PCTCs).
The 200m-long PCTCs will benefit from having dual fuel engines able to run on both LNG and conventional fuel types. Additional energy-efficient, smart technologies will also be installed, including single bow thrusters and semisuspended twisted rudder systems.
The U$85m vessels will be built by Fujian Shipbuilding’s Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry and Mawei Shipyard, ahead of a scheduled delivery date in 2025 – 2026. Each vessel will be able to export vehicles powered by hydrogen and natural gas by using a specially designed 11th and 12th deck.
The PCTC order follows an announcement made in December 2022 which involved Guangzhou Yuanhai Car Carrier Transportation – a joint venture set up by COSCO, SIPG Logistics and SAIC Anji Logistics – placing an order for six 7,500 CEU dual fuel LNG car carriers.
