Kongsberg Maritime (KM) says it has won contracts to design and equip two hybrid construction service operation vessels (CSOV/SOV) for the Norway-based shipowner Awind, a fully owned subsidiary of Integrated Wind Solutions.
Destined for the renewable offshore wind market, the new CSOVs will be built to Kongsberg Maritime’s UT 5519 DE design by the Chinese shipyard China Merchant Heavy Industry (CMHI), with which KM has a long relationship. The vessels are scheduled to be delivered in 2023; according to the company, they are designed with a clear focus on reduced emissions and enhanced sustainability.
To this end, the propulsion system includes the company’s permanent-magnet azimuth thrusters, generators and electrical systems, complemented by a fully integrated bridge with navigation, DP and automation systems, deck machinery equipment and control systems.
The UT 5519 DE also features a novel hull, for which KM says it has drawn on its operational experience with wind farm service vessel designs. The aim is to minimize emissions and maximize maneuverability and efficiency.
