Siemens has expanded its portfolio of electric propulsion systems by adding a new member to the Siship BlueDrive family, the Siship BlueDrive Eco. With the addition of the Siship BlueDrive Eco, which integrates battery systems produced in-house, Siemens BlueDrive family can now meet different power graduations for small to medium-size propulsion systems from 5kW in auxiliary mode up to 5.5MW for the main drive. Based on DC technology and practically tested standardized components such as Sinamics converters, the Siship BlueDrive topology offers benefits such as continuously reliable operation, a leaner design due to fewer components, an extended lifecycle and fuel savings. Siship BlueDrive Eco has been produced in compliance with technical regulations governing the maritime industry and is certified by marine classification societies such as DNV GL. It has been designed for use in diesel-electric, hybrid and fully electrically powered ferries, yachts, cruise liners, work boats and research vessels. Siemens Siship BlueDrive solutions have been successfully installed on completed projects including the MS Diamant passenger ship in Switzerland, the HADAG harbor ferry in Hamburg, and the Ampere, the worlds first fully electric ferry in Norway.
