The Sunpower-Alva 90 solar-electric catamaran has rolled out to the water’s edge ahead of sea trials, marking a key milestone in the vessel’s development.
The 90ft yacht, developed by Sunpower Yachts International, is positioned as a fully integrated solar-electric power catamaran, combining renewable energy systems with long-range cruising capability.
The vessel incorporates solar arrays across its surface area to generate onboard power, supported by battery storage and electric propulsion systems designed to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Sunpower said the setup enables low-noise, low-vibration operation compared with conventional yachts.
A spokesperson for Sunpower Yachts International said, “This is not evolution – it’s revolution. The Sunpower-Alva 90 proves that sustainability and luxury are no longer mutually exclusive. We are witnessing the future of yachting unfold in real time.”
The yacht is now preparing to begin sea trials, where its performance, efficiency and operational capabilities will be evaluated under real-world conditions.
The Sunpower-Alva 90 is described by the company as a new approach to yacht design, integrating renewable energy generation directly into the vessel’s structure. The solar-electric configuration is intended to support emissions-free cruising while maintaining the range and onboard amenities expected in the superyacht segment.
Sea trials are expected to take place over the coming weeks, with updates on performance and deployment anticipated following testing.
