Marine electric propulsion systems and services company ePropulsion has revealed its latest vessel propulsion system at SailGP’s recent Bermuda Sail Grand Prix.

To date, 11 vessels have been retrofitted with ePropulsion’s electric outboard motor, providing a sustainable and environmentally friendly electric outboard solution for SailGP. Alongside this, ePropulsion’s Navy engines were also used for SailGP’s Inspire league, a community engagement program through which SailGP is seeking to make the sport more inclusive while creating the next generation of climate advocates.

“The Bermuda Sail Grand Prix was a fantastic start to our ongoing partnership with SailGP and we were thrilled to be able to provide easy-to-use and innovative systems to the team on the ground who were happy with the supplied hardware,” commented Danny Tao, CEO of ePropulsion. “We are excited to continue to build our partnership and work together to achieve great things.”

As official partners, ePropulsion and SailGP state that they share the same sustainability and environmental goals. SailGP has set a company target of ensuring all its events are powered solely by clean energy by 2025.

“It was fantastic in Bermuda to start the transition to clean energy in some of our support boats, including those used for Inspire. The ePropulsion outboard motors were very easy to use, reactive and with excellent handling. The charging made life easier and the fact that there is no sound or odors has a positive effect on the marine environment. It’s a great step towards our goal of being fully powered by nature both on and off the water,” concluded Tom Herbert-Evans, SailGP youth program manager.
