Norwegian electric ferry operator opts for Zinus remote charging

In January 2022, Norwegian ferry operator Bastø Fosen will take over the ferry connection between Svelvik and Verket in Viken county, Norway. A new fully electric ferry, which is under construction at Sefine Shipyard in Turkey, will service the crossing and will utilize an autonomous charging system supplied by Zinus.

Zinus’s Telescopic Autonomous charging solution comprises one SWC100 charging connection and one ZPP700 charging post. Together, these form an autonomous system that charges the electric ferry fully automatically. The company claims that connection of the ferry to the power supply takes only about 20 seconds, and the system can deliver a current of 4,400A.

The charging connection will be delivered to the yard for installation on board the ferry, and the charging post will be mounted at Svelvik. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in Q2 2021.

“This is an important contract for Zinus, as both buyer Elkon and end customer Bastø Fosen are new to us. The order is a recognition of our charging technology and contributes to increased trust in the market. It will also be great to see one of our products finding its way to Turkey for the very first time, before returning to Norway with the completed ferry,” said Ronny Olson, sales director at Zinus.

“Small footprint, high power output, short connection time and design were the winning features that made us select Zinus as the supplier of autonomous charging for this project,” added Nedim Jakupovic, sales director at Elkon Norge – Elkon’s subsidiary and Norwegian arm.
