EXPO NEWS Day 2: Asian interest in autonomous technology for urban operation

Roboat (Booth 1520), which is based in Amsterdam, has seen a lot of interest in its full-size autonomous on-demand water taxi, capable of carrying up to 6 passengers, on display on its booth at this year’s show.

“We’ve had many people visiting the booth who are really interested in the markets that we see autonomy being successful in, as well as the vessel types we can operate with, which is vessels no longer than 100m,” explained Kristina Brodnevskaya, business developer, Roboat. “In particular, we’ve seen a lot of interest from Asia, which is really looking into what the European market is doing,” she continued.

“The visitors we have seen want to know whether this technology works better in cities or offshore. For us, the best use case is in more complex urban environments, where it can help tackle personnel shortages, with ferry companies and operators currently struggling to find skippers. We also let them know that we offer full integration, starting with the sourcing of all the off-the-shelf components, assembling the system, processing all the data gathered via the hardware sensing technologies, and delivering the finished user interface. We integrate our system with their drivetrain and screens, and we can enable or disable functions depending on each customer’s needs.”
