Shell Marine is another key exhibitor making its first appearance at this year’s Electric & Hybrid Marine Expo Europe. The renowned energy company is at the show to explain how it works with a range of providers to explore solutions for ports and short-sea vessels such as tugboats, inland cargo vessels, ferries and O&M vessels. These solutions span everything from charging systems to e-vessel batteries, and from microgrid and site energy management through to power provisioning.
“As an example, in 2022 we signed an MOU with Port Houston, in Texas,” explained Daniel Reed, maritime projects and engineering manager. “We have a long-standing relationship with the port, and we’re working with them to decarbonize their operations through a variety of ways. Of course, that process starts with us understanding their sustainability goals and ambitions, and then building out the roadmap that fits that plan. One of the ways that we’re supporting them is by developing a whole ecosystem based on both current and future infrastructure, with a goal of ensuring power is available when and where it is needed.
“More generally, as we look to support our customers and partners in their decarbonization journey, we’re bringing together different industry partners across the energy value chain to ensure we have integrated solutions that provide a win-win for all.
“In the state of Texas, we’re also able to provide renewable energy plan options, the electrons from which can be directed to different applications such as charging electric tugs and shore power for tankers and containers, through to gantry cranes and yard mules. And most importantly, these options are scalable and replicable.”
The company has also been explaining to visitors how it offers integrated solutions to drive vessel efficiencies, harness the potential of new technologies and embrace a mosaic of future fuels. Additionally, it provides a suite of lubricant products, digital solutions and technical services, supported by a community of experts, which can help marine customers establish the best course to support their business.
