EXPO NEWS Day 3: A decade of progress

This year’s Electric & Hybrid Marine Expo Europe sees EPTechnologies (Booth 6020) celebrating 10 years of operations, the opening of new premises in Denmark, and a strategic new partnership to develop hydrogen-electric drivelines.

EPT was founded by Kasper Falkenberg and started out in a modest 35m² workshop in Broager, Denmark. Three years later, the company relocated to a basement in Hamburg before expanding to a 100m² facility in 2017. By 2019, EPT had outgrown its premises and moved to a larger space spanning 260m² and co-owner Marco Ottiker joined. In 2021, EPT purchased a property in Reinbek, Hamburg, where its German branch is located today, but this 900m² space proved insufficient, prompting the company to rent an additional location in Denmark. In December 2023, EPT acquired another Danish facility, which has now reached capacity.

Visitors to E&H Marine Expo Europe can head to the company’s booth to hear about EPT’s new 1,500m² Danish facility, which will focus on developing and manufacturing electric sail drives and drop-in units for power boats, and which has three assembly lines for battery production. With an advanced test lab and collaborative spaces, the facility will stimulate innovation and growth to drive progress and new ideas in the maritime industry.

The company has also just announced a strategic collaboration with hydrogen driveline specialist Hyrex, which will combine EPT’s expertise in electric propulsion with Hyrex’s advanced hydrogen fuel cell technology. The partnership will focus on developing and commercializing hydrogen-electric drivelines for small pleasure boats and commercial vessels.

“EPT is proud to partner with Hyrex to lead the future of sustainable transportation, merging our expertise in electric propulsion with their advanced hydrogen propulsion technology. Together, we can deliver groundbreaking, eco-friendly solutions that push the boundaries of clean energy and revolutionize the marine industry,” said Marco Ottiker, COO and co-owner of EPTechnologies.
