China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Jiangsu) in China delivered Finneco III, the third and final hybrid ro-ro vessel in the Eco class, to Finnlines on June 6, 2022.

The vessel is scheduled to enter Finnlines’ Biscay line, where it will join its sister vessels the Finneco I and Finneco II. With an engine output of 2 x 12,780kW, the 238m-long vessel can reach 20.7kts and features an array of emission reduction technology including a battery pack, solar panels and an exhaust gas abatement system.

Featuring a cargo capacity of 5,800 lane meters, the vessels can carry 400 trailers per voyage. It has nearly 40% more carrying capacity than the largest vessels currently in the Finnlines fleet.

As part of Finnlines’ €500m (US$537m) new-building program, the company is also building two eco-sustainable Superstar ro-pax vessels that are scheduled to be delivered in 2023.

“This is a significant milestone in our €500m (US$537m) new-building program and we are delighted to welcome the Finneco trio to the Finnlines fleet,” said Emanuele Grimaldi, chairman of the board at Finnlines. “Through our ambitious investment, we can bring to our customers not only economies of scale and increased frequency but also green and well-scheduled infrastructure in the Baltic Sea, the North Sea and the Bay of Biscay. The Finneco trio will give added value to Finnlines and its customers when they start to operate on their routes.”

Finneco I was delivered on April 28, 2022; Finneco II was delivered on May 30, 2022.
