Hofer Powertrain unveils strategy for maritime decarbonization

Advanced drivetrain solutions developer Hofer Powertrain has announced an initiative to support the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the maritime sector. The approach includes retrofitting and new powertrain development for marine applications. By leveraging a modular design, the company will offer flexible, fuel cell integration solutions that can be rapidly deployed to meet customer needs.

Hofer Powertrain’s experience in hydraulic systems, essential in the application of fuel cells, addresses current challenges faced by many maritime manufacturers. In addition, mechanical integration of the fuel cell and hydrogen-powered drivetrain systems requires sophisticated ventilation and leak prevention, along with careful management of the high electrical power involved. Hofer’s experience with high-voltage power systems and battery storage solutions supplying power to motors for propulsion makes it a strong partner for such systems.

“We assist customers based on their specific needs, from full-scope development projects to integrations of their existing solutions for a transition of vessels and big yachts to climate- and environment-friendly power supply and propulsion systems with fuel cells,” said Matteo Mochi, a sales representative at Hofer Powertrain.
