Marina operator D-Marin is installing a €1.7m (US$1.8m) solar panel network as part of its commitment to sustainability, starting with five marinas in Turkey and Croatia.
D-Marin operates 20 marinas in Greece, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Montenegro, Croatia, Italy and Spain, and has announced the rollout of solar panels to increase its current investment in renewable sources, with the aim of becoming energy self-sufficient.
The first phase of solar panels are already installed at Borik, Mandalina and Dalmacija marinas in Croatia, and works are ongoing at two of D-Marin’s Turkish marinas, Didim and Turgutreis. Combined, the solar panels produce 4.9GWh of energy per year – equating to 71% of the energy used by D-Marin across the five marinas, significantly reducing the company’s carbon footprint in the two regions.
“Our ESG strategy is core to everything we do. This investment in solar power represents a notable milestone in our journey to constantly reduce our carbon footprint, marking the next step in our commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) pathway,” said Areti Priovolou, health, safety, and environmental officer at D-Marin.
“We know that solar power stations will lead to a significant reduction in the amount of energy needed from non-renewable sources. This, in turn, will help us protect the stunning yachting destinations we call home while maintaining a premium marina service. We will be installing solar panels across all 20 D-Marin marinas as we work toward creating a self-sufficient marina network.”
