Technology group Wärtsilä is to supply a comprehensive thruster solution for Dutch dredging and heavy lifting ship company Boskalis.
In order to convert an existing hull into a vessel with a crane, Wärtsilä will provide the Netherlands-based business with four retractable and steerable thrusters, along with two tunnel thrusters. The retraction system has a proven track record and when partnered with an energy efficient 8° tilted thruster, it enables strong and stable station-keeping performance.
The company was tasked with meeting a demanding delivery schedule in December 2019 to help solve operational challenges when carrying out shallow draft operations.
Wärtsilä’s marine vice president, asset management services, Stefan Wiik, said, “Wärtsilä’s thruster solutions enable this kind of high specification vessel to operate successfully in sustainable energy installation projects. Furthermore, the energy efficiency of our thrusters reduces fuel consumption, which at the same time limits emission levels.”
