Netherlands-based water management board Waterschap Scheldestromen, which provides flood defense, clean surface water and road maintenance services, has awarded Holland Shipyards Group a contract for the delivery of a new survey vessel, which is expected to enter service by the end of 2021 as a replacement for its current boat.
Measuring 15.15 x 4.90m, it will be suitable for sailing along the Zeeland coast, up to 5 nautical miles offshore. Propulsion will be provided by two permanent-magnet motors, each rated at 85kW, and a variable-speed genset, which Holland says will ensure optimal fuel consumption and operational reliability with automatic switching between generator modes.
The builder also notes that the ship’s design takes into account future plans to be converted into a battery-powered full-electric vessel. Building of the vessel will start in March at the Holland Shipyards Group’s yard in Werkendam.
