A proposal to build what is stated to be Japan’s first offshore floating solar power generation and automated sailing boat technology demonstration has been selected to become part of the Tokyo Bay eSG Project. The proposal was submitted by offshore floating solar technology company SolarDuck, the Tokyu Land Corporation and Everblue Technologies, a specialist in automated sailing boats with battery storage.
The advanced project is led by the Bureau of Policy Planning of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and aims to create a sustainable city that looks 50 to 100 years into the future. The project is targeting the implementation of state-of-the-art renewable energy, next-generation mobility, and environmental improvement and resource recycling in the city’s central breakwater area.
The three companies aim to produce energy locally for the surrounding Tokyo Bay Area through the use of the offshore floating solar power generation system. This renewable energy will then be used to power electric vessels and demonstrate the marine transportation of storage batteries.
The offshore floating solar power generation and automated sailing boat technology demonstration was selected to become part of the project on November 4, 2022.
