The Vertom Group has launched the third in a series of 10 new-build dry cargo vessels being built by Thecla Bodewes Shipyards in Kampen, the Netherlands. The vessel – named the MV Vertom Tomma – is part of the Labrax 7000 series and features a diesel-electric propulsion system combined with an advanced power management system to reduce fuel consumption, energy losses and CO2 emissions.

The propulsion solution is already delivering the desired levels of performance on board the MV Vertom Patty and MV Vertom Cyta new-build dry cargo vessels.

Following its launch, the MV Vertom Tomma will be commissioned in Kampen in the next few weeks, before trials are carried out in the North Sea, ahead of delivery in September 2023. The vessel is 118.60m long and 14.30m wide and has a full-box cargo hold of 7,280DWT.

“As a shipyard, we understand the need to keep investing in pragmatic and sustainable shipping solutions,” said Thecla Bodewes, CEO of Thecla Bodewes Shipyards. “The MV Vertom Tomma, the third ship in the Labrax 7000-DWT series, is an excellent example of how our yard uses advanced technologies. In collaboration with our regular co-makers, we develop the complete ship design as optimally as possible.”
