The first of 13 LNG-fueled Newcastlemax bulk carriers ordered by Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) has successfully taken its first load of LNG bunker fuel on board in Singapore.
The ABS-classed Mount Tourmaline weighs 209,936 DWT and was built by China-based Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding. It was delivered to EPS on January 28, 2022.
“ABS is proud to be able to use our extensive experience of LNG as a marine fuel to support EPS with its decarbonization strategy,” said Christopher Wiernicki, chairman, president and CEO of ABS. “The vessel’s first fueling with LNG is a significant moment in the project to deliver 13 of these innovative vessels which, together, will represent a significant reduction in carbon emissions and cleaner operations.”
