Motorsport entrepreneur Alejandro Agag, who was responsible for the all-electric Formula E series and latterly, the Extreme E off-road racing series, has unveiled his latest project, E1, a pure electric powerboat racing championship.

All competitors will use the ‘Seabird’ for competition, a 4.8m-long hydroplane with a carbon-fiber hull and equipped with a 30kWh battery. The target speed for the 380kg vessel is 60kts and its design is the brainchild of engineer Sophi Horne, founder of UK-based Seabird Technologies.

The series is planned to run in parallel with Extreme E, which will visit remote locations around the globe, using the RMS St Helena, a converted cargo ship, as a floating support paddock.
